When the Stertz’s offered us M’s Sagebrush Mai Supergirl last year, we were elated…. upon hearing the news Marshall said “I know just the buck for her!” Of course we were then doubly excited as we’ve used quite a bit of M's Sagebrush genetics throughout our herd.
Vesper arrived here as a cute little CHOCOLATE buck with a big white splash on his side. I adore chocolate. Apparently he decided to turn into a color I’m not quite as fond of, but also began growing … and growing … and growing some more. I told Lee he reminds me of one of those awkward balloon animals that’s all out of sorts because it can’t decide which part to expand on first. We giggled as well as to how two black showy parents produce a white kid. Well, in the spring of 2024 white doe after white doe began appearing out of Sundgau dams. Vesper marked many of his first crop of daughters in color as well as his wide, deep muzzle and chests. Lots of bone and width, just what we ordered!
As a young kid, Vesper did very well on his first show outing. He and our other junior buck Rohan traded spots for first in a large class of juniors. Vesper went on to stand in the lineup against the senior bucks and grabbed a Reserve Champion ribbon behind herd mate Titanium under Judge Karen Smith. Vesper continued to do well in the show ring in 2024, standing at the top of his yearling class gathering up his first champion leg and several reserves. In 2025, after our move to Texas, we showed him as an immature 2 year old at the Milk & Honey Pot. He went Grand, BOB in each ring, grabbing the purple and yellow Best in Show that day. At Nationals, his yearling daughter Tallulah was awarded 4th place Sr. Yearling in an extremely large class. Tallulah, Elle and Raegan were also awarded 5th place Get of Sire. Two of his daughters, Venom and Tallulah, have also placed Best in Show as juniors. We will see his first udders in 2026 but his daughters are displaying the extreme depth and width of their father.
Vespers dam, CH M’s sagebrush Sam Elle is a lovely black and white doe who we've admired for quite some time. Other close relatives that are in our herd are CH M’s Sagebrush Sam Keepsake and M’s Sagebrush Dream Maelstrom.
Vespers sire is none other than the high selling 2019 Spotlight Sale buck *B Kastdemur’s Vermouth. There’s not much more that I can add to that!
We can’t thank Marshall and Trudy Losey AGAIN for sending a nice buck up to us here in Nebraska. We sure are proud of him.
Vesper has been collected twice through XCell Genetics.
Semen is available but very limited. We lost Vesper in the Fall of 2025 to an internal spinal injury that was causing severe pain despite treatment. Devastating, as he was maturing into an extremely powerful, wide buck with the sweetest temperament. Vesper is dearly missed.
